Early Childhood
Development (PreK-Grade 4 Licensure)
Undergraduate Program
This program in early childhood is designed to
meet the state competencies for licensure in PreK-4. It includes
courses in early childhood development, a professional education
component, and a student teaching experience in both PreK-K and
grades 1-4.
Advising: Each student will be assigned a
faculty advisor when he or she enters the early childhood
development program. Beyond the major requirements, the students
and their advisors will determine the courses needed that are
consistent with the students’ professional interests and goals.
Admission: Any student who chooses to
pursue early childhood development for licensure in PreK-4 must
apply for admission to the Teacher Education Program.
Requirements for admission to the program, in addition to those for
admission to Teacher Education, are as follows:
- Declaration of Intent Form filed in
the Office of Student Services (321 Warf-Pickel) before 30
hours of coursework have been completed
- PPST (Reading, Writing, and Math),
ACT, or SAT minimum test scores
- Completed 30 credit hours of General
Education courses including the following: Writing (6 hrs.),
Sciences (8 hrs.), Mathematics (3 hrs.), and 13 additional
hours chosen from History, Humanities and Fine Arts, and
Social and Behavioral Sciences
- 2.5 GPA on all general education
coursework attempted, excluding Development Studies courses
- Completed EDFN 2100 and EDFN 2300
with a grade of "C" or better
- Completed FACS 2120 with a grade of
"C" or better
- Teacher Board Interview
Transfer Students: Transfer students
should apply for admission into the program and meet with an
early childhood development advisor to plan their program.
These students must meet the requirements of the university
regarding transfer and program admission.
