Community Agency and School Counseling Options Accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational
Programs (CACREP).
Four concentrations are available in the Counseling Masters Degree Program:
- Community Agency Counseling
- Higher Education
- Marriage & Family Therapy
- School Counseling
We will design your program to meet educational licensure
requirements for the state in which you intend to work.
You can design your program of study to meet educational licensure
requirements for more than one specialty area; for example, Marriage
and Family Therapy and Community Agency Counseling, or Community
Agency Counseling and School Counseling.
Students can change options within the program without going through readmission.
In addition, the counseling program has created a cross
disciplinary Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Counselor
Leadership.
Graduate assistantships and financial aid are available. Full-time graduate assistantships (20 hours of work per week) pay $666.00 a month and include waiver of all in- and out-of- state tuition. Half-time assistantships (10 hours of work per week) pay $333.00 a month and include waiver of one-half of in- and out-of-state tuition.
Tuition scholarships available for new entering students. Tuition scholarships require 8 hours per week of work in exchange for a waiver of all in- and out-of–state tuition.
Counseling students can also apply
for The Mable Clair Ligon Memorial Scholarship which is given to counseling graduate students in the Clemmer College of Education who can document financial need and have at least a 3.5 undergraduate and 3.5 graduate GPA. Priority is given to female students.
The counseling program has its own clinic housed in the Clemmer College of Education that has up to six individual, group, and family therapy rooms. Primary rooms have one-way observation mirrors and are individually equipped with new audio and video taping components.
Low faculty to student ratios of 1:10 in general and 1:5 in practicum and internship supervision.
Upon graduation in the School Counseling or Community Agency Counseling options you will meet all National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) educational requirements for taking the National Counselor Exam (NCE).
Students have the option to take the NCE before graduation, moving you one step closer to licensure.
Upon graduation in Marriage and Family Therapy you will meet all Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) educational requirements.
A new state of the art library opened in the Spring, 1999 provides students with the opportunity for individualized study space.
Modern apartment living is available on campus.
Located in the northeast corner of Tennessee at the edge of the Smoky Mountains, ETSU is in a geographic area that has a moderate climate and four seasons. The area offers access to many outdoor activities including hiking, backpacking, camping, rafting, boating, biking, snow and water skiing, golf, etc.
