ETSU Special Education K-12 and Pre-K Grant

The ETSU Special Education Grant is a Tennessee Department of Education funded service grant that provides tuition support for individuals who work for Tennessee Public Education or Early Intervention systems. Qualified candidates in Northeast Tennessee may receive up to 9 – 10 credit hours of tuition and fees per semester in order to earn licensure in for K-12 modified, comprehension special education or early childhood special education. In return, the recipient must sign a student service agreement contract to teach special education in a Tennessee public school system for two years for each 30 credit hours funded. If the recipient fails to complete his/her service obligation within 5 years of completion of the licensure requirements, he/she must repay the Tennessee Department of Education the funds plus 10% annual yearly interest. Funding is limited to 10 K-12 and 8 Pre-K participants per semester.  All applicants must be admitted to ETSU prior to submitting application.

Qualifications:

Priority 1 – Teachers teaching special education in a Tennessee public school on a waiver.

Applicants must be admitted to the ETSU School of Graduate Studies.

Candidates must submit an application, copy of their teaching license, and waiver contract.

Priority 2 – Paraprofessionals who provide special education instructional support in a Tennessee public school

In order to qualify u ndergraduate applicants must meet the following requirements:

60 hours of undergraduate credits with an overall GPA of 2.5 from General Education Coursework
6 hours English Composition (ENG 1010 &1020)
8 hours of Natural Sciences
3-4 hours of Math
15 hours of additional General Education courses (from History, Humanities & fine Arts, Social & Behavioral Sciences, and Communications)

Meet the test score requirement of one of the following tests: ACT composite of 22 or higher; SAT 1020 or higher, or passing PRAXIS 1 exam (PPST) in  Reading (174), Math (173), & Writing (173).

Graduate applicants must have a Tennessee teacher license or meet one of the test score requirements.
