Revisioning Process

University School
A Mathematics and Science Signature School

In 2005, University School began a process to shift the focus of University School to a mission that better serves the needs of our students and the larger community.  A committee of faculty, administration, parents, and community leaders was appointed to determine the new focus.  From that extensive work the following mission statement was developed.

University School Mission Statement

As a model K-12 school, we are committed to an integrated academic curriculum emphasizing mathematics and science, which prepares all students and future educators to contribute to and succeed in a technologically oriented and global society.

In that first year of work, the committee also developed a set of strategic initiatives that matched University School's new focus.  A set of guiding principles that define the core responsibilities to enhance mathematics and science education was then created.

In 2006, a set of guiding questions was developed to focus and guide planning by faculty and staff.  This question set is posted  in every classroom at University School and is core to the development of new initiatives.  During the 2006-07 school year, school faculty and administration continued to meet frequently to develop strategic action plans consistent with the strategic initiatives and considering the guiding principles and guiding questions.  This action plan is a work in progress that is updated routinely as plans develop or need modification.

Work continues during the 2007, 2008, and 2009 school years to define action plans for each of these initiatives, some are only in initial planning stages while others are more complete.

The commitment of the revisioning committee and administration is to provide all current and future University School families frequent opportunities to learn more about Revisioning.  Your input is strongly encouraged.
