Purpose
Breaks ALIVE offers classes to strengthen and extend
learning for University School students.
The content of all courses is designed to address Tennessee
Curriculum Standards and national standards.
The classes offered during Intersession provide students with
additional instruction in the areas of language arts, mathematics,
technology, science, social studies, the arts and physical education.
The program provides active instruction using approaches that
encourage hands-on learning.
Remediation and enrichment classes are offered for
elementary, middle, and high school students.
Special invitations may be issued to students needing
reinforcement in specific subjects.
Schedule
The Intersession schedule follows the normal school
hours. Students enrolled for
the full day should pack a bag lunch and snack.
The school cafeteria is not open during Intersession.
Drop-off may occur up to 30-minutes before courses begin and
pick-up is expected at the scheduled end of each course.
Some intersession programs/camps run outside the normal school
day. Please see Ms. Blakely
if you have special concerns.
Normal after school care is available by arrangement with Girls’
Inc.
Eligibility
All currently enrolled University School students are
eligible to attend Intersession programs.
Teachers may recommend students for specific courses.
Cost
The fees associated with each program are listed under
the program description in the Breaks ALIVE catalog.
Cost includes all class materials, special event fees and field
trip transportation. Payment
is required to confirm enrollment.
Checks should be made payable to University School.
Additional fees for after-school care apply as per normal
after-school programming.
Refunds are not available for registration cancellation by
parents/guardians after September 4, 2009.
If a program does not reach its enrollment minimum, a full refund
will be issued to parent/guardians.
Registration
Registration forms and fees may be dropped off with
Dr. April Blakely, Rm. 121
at University
School. Registration forms
may also be submitted electronically as an email attachment to
blakely@etsu.edu or faxed to
423-439-5921. Registration
is not confirmed until fee payment is processed by the school office.
We hold all checks until the
first day of intersession to ensure enrollment meets minimums before
depositing.
After-School Care
There is a separate registration process for
after-school/intersession care.
This program operates as it does during the regular school year.
For further information, please contact the After-school program
director at 423-767-3235.
Attendance
Most classes are designed as self-contained units.
In order for students to fully benefit from these learning
experiences, they are expected to attend every day for the full length
of the program. If a student
is absent, please notify the school office at 439-4333 as soon as
possible. The school will
make normal attendance phone call checks for intersession students in
programs occurring within Alexander Hall.
Behavior
Excellent University School behavior is expected
during the Intersession program.
Students who disrupt learning will be referred to a school
administrator for disciplinary action.
If it becomes necessary, student(s) could be removed from
Intersession programming. No
refunds will be issued.
