OTHER AREAS OF EXPERIENCE
Presented church music seminars in
Richmond, Virginia, Jacksonville, Florida and at the
India Baptist Convention Pastor’s
Conference in Cochin, Kerala, India.
Served as a consultant for Active
Learning in the Arts, Inc., developer of the Music School curriculum and
program. Conducted regional seminars on starting a music school in a
local church.
Founded The Music School at
Blacksburg Baptist Church in the fall of 1990. Based on a curriculum of
comprehensive music education, the school offered classes for two years
old children through those in grade six.
Student teacher supervisor with the
Monroe County Public Schools.
Graduate assistant at Georgia State
University in research on the evaluation of music teacher competency. MUSIC PERFORMANCE
EXPERIENCE
Dr. Borden served
as musical director and conductor for a joint production by University
School, ETSU, and the Johnson City Community Theater of "Meet Me In St.
Louis." He
has also served as musical director for a number of productions with the
Johnson City Community Theater to include “Hello, Dolly,” “Time Warp,” “Nunsense,”
and “Grease.” In the summer of 2002 he performed the lead in the musical “Kiss Me
Kate.” This past year Dr. Borden performed as
the Doctor in the play "Foxfire" and in a musical based on USO shows
for the Jonesborough Repertory Theater.
This past December he directed the Little Theater of Greeneville, TN
production of "Bell, Book and Candle."
He has performed professionally as a
trombonist with The Macon Symphony, Holiday On Ice, as well as on a per
contract basis for various organizations.
He has conducted many choral and
instrumental groups including the Jasper Jubilee Singers, The Middle
Georgia Concert Band, and the Government Issue Chorus.
He has served as both the assistant director and the interim director of
the Johnson City Community Concert Band in Johnson City, TN.
He has toured extensively with the
Government Issue Chorus while on duty with the United States Army and
various choral groups from churches and schools. Tours have included
many areas of the United States of America, Canada, Great Britain
and Italy.
The University
School Singers in April 2006 successfully completed a tour to Italy. The
chorus competed in the Verona, Italy annual international choral competition.
As well as giving two local concerts the chorus won a silver challis in the
competition.

a band arrangement; "Here in This Place":
a musical, later adapted into a cantata; "The Sunday After Easter":
a musical; "Hosea":
a sacred opera; "Obed the Gardener":
an Easter musical; "A Season of Miracles":
a Christmas oratorio; “Sometimes a Light Surprises”,
a commissioned anthem;
"Gifts of Love": a Christmas cantata and
various other compositions and arrangements. |
