AND THEATRE PERFORMANCE
EXPERIENCE
Dr. Borden has
performed professionally as a trombonist. He also sang for a number of
years in the auditioned ensemble "The Johnson City Civic Chorale."
For the past year
and a half, Dr. Borden has been assisting the Little Theatre of
Greeneville, Tennessee as acting Artistic Director. He has directed the
following productions: "Bell, Book and Candle," "Everybody Loves Opal," "The Homecoming," "High
School Musical," "How to Eat Like a Child," "The Spiral Staircase," "The
Housekeeper" and "Kilroy Was Here." He also performed
roles in "Everybody Loves
Opal," The Spiral Staircase," "The Housekeeper" and "Kilroy Was Here."
Dr. Borden also oversaw a production of "On Golden Pond."
In 1996, Dr. Borden served
as musical director and conductor for the musical "Meet Me In St. Louis," a joint production by University
School, ETSU, and the Johnson City Community Theater. He
has also served as musical director for a number of
other productions with the
Johnson City Community Theater to include “Hello, Dolly,” “Time Warp,” “Nunsense,”
and “Grease.” He performed a supporting
role in "You Can't Take It With You" and in the summer of 2002 sang the lead in the musical “Kiss Me
Kate.” In addition, Dr. Borden performed in two musicals based on USO shows
as well as the Doctor in a production of "Foxfire" for the Jonesborough Repertory Theater.
At University
School, the chorus and instrumental groups have performed many concerts
throughout the years on campus, in the community and on tour.
Theatrical productions performed by University School students include: "And Then
There Was One," "The Sillies," "Charleston," "Sleepy Hollow," "High
School Musical," "And Then There Was One, Too," "The Empty Chair,"
"Fairy Tail TV," "Disaster," "The Monkey's Paw" and "Wishful Thinking."
He has conducted many choral and
instrumental groups including the Jasper Jubilee Singers, The Middle
Georgia Concert Band, and the Government Issue Chorus.
While playing trombone for several years in the Johnson City Community
Concert Band, he also served as that organization's assistant director
for two years and then the interim director for another two years.
He has toured extensively
nationally and internationally with
some of the various
performance groups he has conducted. These include the Government Issue Chorus
as well as other choral and instrumental ensembles from churches and schools. Tours have included
many areas of the United States of America, Canada, Great Britain,
India
and Italy.
The University
School Singers in April 2006 successfully completed such a tour to Italy. The
chorus competed in the Verona, Italy annual international choral competition.
As well as giving two local concerts the chorus won a silver challis in the
competition.
