Spanish One Essays

Chapter One    Rough Draft Due:                         Final Draft Due:

Assignment:  Write a letter to a pen pal.  Introduce yourself and give your age and where you’re from.  List three or four of your likes and dislikes.  Then ask your pen pal some questions.

Requirements:

Your essay should be no less than 75 words.  You must include accent marks and proper punctuation (upside down questions marks).  Refer to the así se dice sections of your textbook for assistance in writing your essay.

Chapter Two             Rough draft due:                             Final draft due:

Situation:  Write a VERY SIMPLE essay about the current contents of you room, things that you need in your room, and things that you want in your room.  Keep in mind that your Spanish is very limited right now.  You may not be able to describe everything as you would like to describe it.  The beauty of Spanish one is that you have full license to make things up (I don’t know what your room looks like and will not be checking to make sure that what you wrote is truthful.  I only care about the Spanish  J) .  While you are free to use dictionaries (but not translators) I do not expect vocabulary that is beyond what you have learned.

Requirements:

1.       Your essay should be no less than 75 words.

2.      You must use the verbs, tener, necesitar, and querer at least twice each.

3.      Use the word hay at least twice.

4.      You must use a variety of vocabulary.

**These words and phrases will help you.

Cerca de = close to                        estante = (book) shelf                     alfombra = carpet / rug

Al lado de = next to             cortinas = curtains               piso = floor

Encima de = on top of                    pared = wall                         manta = blanket

Chapter Three

Situation:  You’re creating a Spanish page for your school’s web site.  Include information about your Spanish class: when it meets, what your teacher and some of your classmates are like (and the things that they like), and what you like about the class and why.

Requirements:

1.       You must use the verb ser appropriately (subject and verb must agree).

2.      You must be sure that your adjectives have the appropriate gender.

3.      You must use a variety of vocabulary.

4.      You must use the verb gustar appropriately

5.      You must say why you (and or your classmates) like (or dislike) certain things.

6.      Your essay must be at least 100 words.
