Lizard Lines

March 31-April 4, 2008

TCAP/Terra Nova

We will be taking the TCAP/Terra Nova tests during the week of April 14.  We will start on Tuesday, April 15 and finish on Friday, April 18.  I will assign only R-A-H homework and some cursive license related work. We have spent this week (and will spend the next two weeks) reviewing information that will be tested.  Next week we will begin using  review booklets that are in the same format as the tests.  Already, I can see that the review has been helpful.  Practicing takes some of the mystery and “scare” out of the tests.

Bike Ride

Sometime in May (tentatively May 9) we will have a bike ride on the Erwin Linear Trail.  Right now, I’m trying to do some preliminary work to find out who needs to borrow a bike or a helmet and who doesn’t yet ride independently.  If you could fill out the attached information sheet -and return it as soon as possible, I would appreciate it.

I will be glad to help locate a bike and/or helmet if necessary.  I have also located a website that gives tips on how to teach young bike riders.  This is just one of many that you can find if you Google “teaching bike riding”:  http://www.ibike.org/education/teaching-kids.htm

The primary tip that is given is to first let children find the balance of the bike while they have their feet close to the ground and can quickly put them down to keep from falling.

In addition to working on bike riding at home, we will provide practice time and instruction at school.

Thanks!

 Homework

Homework for the next two weeks will be review for Terra Nova (also known as TCAPs).  This week we are concentrating on Math.  There is an answer key in the front of the booklet, please check your child’s work and help them make corrections.  The work that is coming home is very similar to the review work that we will be doing in class.

If you have any questions, you can email me at Floyds@etsu.edu.

Thanks!

Alert!

Third graders have been exposed to a case of mononucleosis.  If you would like more information about symptoms, please call our school nurse @ 439- 8647.
