Reported by Meg
When we got in the classroom we got our homework for the whole week and our planners turned in.
Ashley read the Morning Message. The man in our Morning Message jogged from L.A. to New York backwards. It took him 107 days. Then we wrote a story of when we walked in the classroom to the last thing we remember. We shared our life in reverse story.
Ashley said that her gerbil had babies two of them. One died, one survived.
We lined up for Jump for Heart. Jump for Heart is a jump rope competition in our school. It helps us raise money for the American Heart Association.
We walked to Brooks Gym. When we got out the door, Ashley said, “It’s not that cold out here.”
When we got to Brooks Gym we sat in the bleachers, while Mrs. Cradic reviewed the rules with us. Then she called us into groups. I got in a group with Vinny, Claire, Jaelen, Kevin, and Hannah.
We went to the basketball quart and did a lot of stretches. Our first activity was #13, straddle and scissors. Straddle is jumping with our feet together and then apart. Scissors is moving one foot forwards and one foot backwards and then switching foot position. The second thing we did was “copy cat”. We had to copy the leader of the group. The next group was figure 8 jumps. You swing the jump rope two times on either side of you, then jump. After that, we had a side-by-side partner jump. There are two people to one rope. The next activity was the game, “School”. It’s my favorite game. Every time you jump you get in a new grade. I made it to 5th grade. We did Chinese Jump rope next. The next thing we did was, “Shark”. One person swings a long rope and the other people jump over it. We then got a break. We got to get drinks and play in the bleachers. We watched the other kids play. After that we had, “Call In”. This is where one person jumps and calls somebody’s name. That person then jumps with the caller. Next was, “Skier and Twister”. When you are doing Skier, you jump side to side. I don’t remember what Twister is. Next we had “Jump Bands”. Two people are called workers. They tie elastic bands to their ankles. The other people jump in and out of them. Next we got to do “Limbo”. Limbo is fun. Next we got to do any kind of jump we wanted. I jumped backwards, forwards and side to side. Next we rested again. That was our last station.
After all the stations, we did a four step dance. When they jumped, the ground shook like an earthquake.
The fifth grade did some special jumps. Devin, my little brother, said, “Shark is my favorite game” while the forth grade jumped. Ian agreed. Devin jumped with my Roving Reporter necklace when his class jumped.
After that we lined up and played, “School”. I got to 12th grade this time, Zandra got to 7th, Vinny got to 10th, Ashley and Victoria got to 27th, David M. and Crew forgot how far they got, Jonathan, David F., Josh and Paul didn’t play. Clare got to 54th, Matt got to 50th, Hannah got to 31st, Zack got to 5th, Pippa got to 100th, Jaelan got 3rd, Megan got to 21st, Jackson got to 3rd, Kevin got to 53rd, Brooklyn got to 4th and Olivia got to 33rd.
When we got back we brought our lunches to our gym and ate. After that we watched March of the Penguins. I liked it, but some people didn’t.
