Conventions in Middle Level Grades Language Arts
Action Research Goals:
To improve student achievement from proficient to
advanced level in English grammar and conventions as
indicated through TCAP test scores.
Question:
Will using a combination of Holt
On-Line Essay writing and student self-check rubric improve student
achievement on Grammar and Conventions on TCAP tests?
Subjects:
Twenty-five sixth grade Language Arts students
Procedures:
- Analyze 2004-2005 TCAP data for fifth grade
students for areas needing improvement.
- Choose Grammar and
Conventions as area of need.
- Research best practices to address area of
need.
- Incorporate Holt On-Line
essay writing into Language Arts curriculum each
month.
- Create and implement a
self-evaluation rubric/checklist for students to check each writing
piece.
- Compare 2005-2006 TCAP achievement to
2006-2007
achievement in the area of Grammar and
Conventions.
