Introduction

Native Americans have occupied this land long before America was discovered.  Your classmates and you are now considered to be Historians.  Through this Web Quest, you will learn about six Native American tribes that once lived in Tennessee.  Through your journey into history, you will learn about each tribe by researching about their food, shelter, clothing, legends, government and historial events.  Good luck on your endeavor.

Task

Your group’s task is to research one of the six Native American tribes that once lived in Tennessee.  These tribes are Cherokee, Chickasaw, Koasati, Quapaw, Shawnee, and Yuchi.

  You should research information on the following:

1.        Types of shelter

2.     Types of clothing

3.     Types of food

4.     Types of government 

5.     History or a Historical Event

As you research your topics it is important to keep notes, you will be provided with a Facts sheet to keep your information.  Then, prepare some type of visual aid with the results of your findings.  You may use PowerPoint, poster board, or dioramas.  As a group you will present your findings to the class.  You will also turn in your notes after your presentation.

Process

1.    You will be placed into groups of three to four students. 

2.    Each student will be provided with a Facts Sheet in which all information is to be kept.

3.    Each student should review the grading rubric.

4.    Each group will be assigned a Native American tribe to research.

5.    Each student will research one of the required topics.  Students can research others and include it in the presentation.

6.    Group members will compare notes

7.    Groups will agree on the visual aid to be used and work together to complete.

8.    Groups will present their information to the class.

9.    Complete the additional activity (word search)

Congratulations on all of your hard work.  Through this Web Quest and presentations you have learned about the customs of the six Native American tribes that once lived on land that today is considered to be Tennessee.  You have learned about their types of shelter, food, clothing, government, and history.  You have also successfully worked together as a group to complete a project.
