Battle of Gettysburg

 

 

 

July first thru third, 1863

Intro

The battle of Gettysburg was the deadliest battle in American history.  It took place in Gettysburg, Pennyslvania from July first thru third in 1863.  The Army of Northern, VA (75,00 men) was lead by General Robert E. Lee.  They met the Union Army of the Potomac (accidentally) which was led by George G. Meade.  The Union army had 97,000 men.  The Battle of Gettysburg was not a decisive battle, but it was one of the deadliest battles on North American soil.

Conclusion

Congratulations! You have completed your task.  The Battle of Gettysburg ended with a victory for the Union Army of the Potomac.  The army's combined had suffered 51,000 casualties total, whether the soldiers were killed, wounded or missing.  5,000 horses died, and at least 7,000 people were dead.  Four months later, President Lincoln gave the Gettysburg address.  Now, there is a Gettysburg National Cemetery and Gettysburg National Military Park.
