Goals:  English 9:  Number of students testing advanced in End of Course Test will increase 2%

English 10: 2% increase in number of students testing advanced on Gateway

English 11: 2% increase in number of students with score of 3 or higher on TCAP

English 12: 2% increase in number of students with score of 3 or higher on AP exam

Question:  How can high school English instructors provide experiences that improve student success in reading comprehension and critical analysis of literature?

Subjects:  English 9, 10, 11, 12 (General, Honors, and AP)

Procedures:  One genre-based seminar will be conducted each nine weeks for terms II, III, and IV for the 2005-2006 academic year.  Each seminar will address a different literary genre:  poetry, short story, and non-fiction.  All students in English 9-12 will participate, and at least two or more grade levels will participate at a time if the schedule permits.
