Starts, Stops, & Turns

 

Triple Threat

            Upon reception of the ball, be in triple threat position

            Knees bent

Ready to explode

Ball tucked

 

Permanent Pivot Foot

When catching the ball on the perimeter, use the left foot as your pivot foot (unless you are left-handed)

 

Starts:

Direct Drive

Crossover Drive

*First step should be long, low, quick, and directly by the defender

 

Stops:

Jumpstop – land on both feet with a wide base; land on heels, land in triple threat position

 

Turns:

            Front pivot & reverse pivot

            Stay low on turns

Be quick

Lead with elbow

Tuck ball in tight – rip it high or low

 

Points to Remember

1.      Triple threat

2.      Transfer on catch to keep the defender off

3.      Economy of motion – no wasted movement

4.      Permanent pivot foot

5.      Object is to get your head and shoulders by the defender…first step should be long, low, and quick
