PLAN & PSAT
Announcement
Coming up in October is an opportunity to take the PLAN (pre-ACT) on
the 10th and the PSAT (pre-SAT) on the 17th. Taking these exams is
a good opportunity to practice your skills for the ACT and SAT at a
much cheaper price. For the first time this year all sophomores
will be required to take the PLAN and there will be no cost.
Juniors may still sign up for the PLAN at a cost of $12.00. The
PSAT is recommended for Juniors and the cost is $15.00. Your score
in your junior year on the PSAT is what qualifies you for the
National Merit Scholarship Program. The PLAN and PSAT also give good
feedback on areas for review and improvement when you take the ACT
or SAT in the spring of your Junior year. We have 10 slots
available for Juniors for the PLAN at a cost of $12, and 60 slots
are available for the PSAT for either sophomores or juniors at a
cost of $15. You may sign up beginning September 10. Please make
checks payable to University School.
Attention Sophomores & Juniors!
The applications and information for the
Tennessee Governor’s
Schools will be online in early August. Be
sure to check out the new one for Scientific Models and Data Analysis at

NEW Tennessee Statewide Grading Policy
Beginning this year, high schools in Tennessee will
be required to conform to a state-mandated grading policy and to use
grade point averages based on a 4.0 scale. School systems are allowed
to create internal policies for academic honors so University School
will continue using a 5.0 scale for ranking purposes, although GPAs on
transcripts will not exceed 4.0. The new grading scale will be as
follows:

ATTENTION Juniors and their Parents
All Junior students should plan to take the ACT or
SAT during the spring semester so that they are prepared to submit
college applications in the fall. Many students like to attempt the
exams more than once to earn the best possible score before submitting
their college applications. Students can receive one voucher to take
either the ACT or SAT for free during either their junior or senior
year. See Ms. Shaw for application packets and/or vouchers.
