GRADING AND CLASSROOM POLICIES

CLASS PROJECTS: During each term, I will assign in-class art projects in various art media (drawing, paint, printmaking, sculpture, etc.). Each student is responsible for completing each project by the due date and keeping that project in his or her portfolio (provided and stored in room). I will assign approximately ten major pieces per term in addition to in-class exercises.

HOMEWORK: There will be occasional homework to be completed in due time.

TESTS: There will be a final exam at the end of each semester.

PARTICIPATION: Daily effort, class participation, and attendance are important to progress. I encourage each student to do his or her best each day. I follow attendance and makeup work policies outlined in the student handbook.

GRADING: I will evaluate portfolio work as outlined in the attached sample grade sheet. I assess grades each term according to the following scale:

            Class Projects                                                70 points

            Homework                                                      10 points

            Participation/Effort                                        10 points

            Test/Final Project                                           10 points

Portfolio projects will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  1. Effort:
    • Puts forth best effort to complete the projects as explained

  1. Craftsmanship:
    • Handles art materials correctly. Professionally presents final projects (neat, clean, wrinkle-free)

  1. Meets Assignment Objectives:
    • Completes each project according to instruction
    • Demonstrates an understanding of the assignment

SAMPLE GRADE SHEET

 FEES AND MATERIALS

There is a $20 art fee per student which is used to order various materials such as paint, clay, printmaking materials, paper, etc. I also ask that students bring a pencil each day to class (may be stored in portfolio).

CLEAN-UP AND CARE OF ART MATERIALS

All students are responsible for cleaning up their work spaces and returning any materials used during class to the appropriate storage areas. If a student breaks or destroys art supplies, he or she will be required to replace the item(s).
