Ms. Williams - Action Research Project

ACTION RESEARCH

The creation of a pre-test for beginning economics students to be administered at the beginning of the class. This assessment would measure basic economic knowledge. skills in reading comprehension. the interpretation of subject related cartoons and graphs. critical thinking, the ability relate other subject material to economics, and written and oral expressions.
 

ACTION RESEARCH GOALS

That each student show a measurable improvement in economic competencies. basic learning skills. and an awareness of the relationship of economics to the very fabric of their daily lives and future goals. This would be continuous assessments and evaluations administered throughout this half-semester class. semester.
 

QUESTIONS:

I. What's economics and how does the study of economics influence and impact the daily decisions and choices that you make everyday?

2. The number of students who can relate other classes to their studs of economics?

3. Which skills previously learned in other disciplines can be used to help facilitate, re-enforce. and to enhance a balance awareness of economics.

4. The identification of professions that require a strong foundation in the study of economics.

5. How does studying economics relate to good citizenship?
 

SUBJECTS:

Students in the economics classes.
 

PROCEDURES:

A pre post test was administered.

The results from the pretest was used as an indicator for a needs assessment for basic knowledge and skills in the study of economics.

Lessons taught were in line with the assessment from the pretest.

The posttest measured teacher and student growth. assessed the effectiveness of teaching strategies. and the successes of the learning experience for teacher and students.
