ABOUT THIS COURSE IN ECONOMICS: this hands-on learning experience will
compare in some detail how economies, individuals, societies,
civilizations, institutions, and governments answer the three basic
economic questions that are essential when the goal is to satisfy basic
needs and unlimited wants.
MAJOR GOALS: (1) An understanding and an appreciation of the fact that
economics reflects choices, decisions, and goals that you are commited
to achieving for a successful lifestyle. ((2) Hands-on learning
experiences with practical daily life skills. ((3) Demonstrations of
problem-solving, critical reading, and thinking skulls. (4) An
understanding of the social and economic goals of the U.S. market system
and the importance of citizen participation to help protect our system.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
A. A Notebook/Folder
1. Contents: notes (may be used on open note quizzes), vocabulary and
key terms, Chapter Section Assessments,
assigned personal budgets, critiques of guest speakers and videos,
tests, quizzes, special reports, Internet assignments,
related current events logs and articles.
B. Bring your textbook to class each class session, unless otherwise
instructed. BOOK CHECKS
ARE PART OF YOUR PARTICIPATION GRADE.
C. Life Skills Folder (Hands-on/Visual Demonstration of Skills: choices
and decisions for surviving on personal resources. Ex. housing
selections, sharing living quarters and the responsibilities there of,
shopping for food, using coupons, trimming wants, and needs.
D. Stock Portfolio
The Creation of a financial resource minus the actual money. The
selection of stocks on the NYSE, Weekly update on the status of stocks
selected. The investment capital: $100,000.
E. Class Participation
Preparation, sharing ideas, listening to others, turning in assigned
work, attendance, absence of tardies, keeping up with assignment when
you are absent. etc.
F. Optional Senior Projects
G. Voter Registration
Applications for voter registration can be issued upon request/can
be mailed by teacher.
H. Municipal Meetings
Each student is requested to either watch on
television or attend at least one City /Planning Commission meeting.
GRADING POLICY: A Participation
of grade of 100%
Class preparation and participation
Major grades: notebook, stock portfolio, life skills project, tests,
quizzes, special assignments and presentations.
Missed assignments, test, and quizzes should be made up within two days
of your return to class. Test/quiz
make-ups requirements must be met either before or after school. TAKE
NOTE OF CHANGES IN OUR HANDBOOK!
Late assignments: 8 pts. first day, 16 pts. second dsy, 24 third day.
EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS SHOULD BE NEEDED. IF YOUR TEST SCORES ARE LOW,
OPEN QUIZZES CAN HELP, COMPLETING ALL ASSIGNMENTS ON TIME,
COMING TO CLASS PREPARED AND ON TIME,
EFFECTIVE PARTICIPATION, POSITIVE ATTITUDES,
ETC.
