Welcome to Art!
Parents and Teachers,
For the last 4 years, the University School elementary art program has been working with the Mary B. Martin Foundation to provide art work that is used at the annual volunteer dinner. Usually this has affected only two or three classes. This year the volunteer event will include a poetry reading by Jesse Graves, one of the University’s English professors. Mr. Graves will be reading from his book on Appalachian Poetry. Our elementary art students are surprising him not only with student art work, but poems as well.
The reason for this letter is to let you know that the art work and poetry by our Elementary Students (Grades 1-8) will be on display for this event and will also be available for viewing during the week of April 27th through May 1st. The work will be located in Room 422 of the Sherrod Library. This room is dedicated to Appalachian Studies and is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9AM to 4:30 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity to have a display of our students’ work at one time and in one place.
I would like to encourage you to take a few minutes to go look at our “show.” All the pieces of art have an Appalachian theme. Each grade level had a somewhat different subject. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at: Pittse@etsu.edu .
