Congratulations to University School Kindergarten Instructor,
Mary Myron
. She and Rosemary Geiken from the College of Education, Department of Human and Development and Learning have been awarded a grant from the International Association Laboratory Schools. The grant supports the goal of Project CFITS (Coaching for Inquiry Teaching of Science) which will provide a model program, virtual coaching and professional development to K-3 public school teachers for the purpose of increasing their knowledge, skills and confidence to implement an inquiry-based science curriculum that promotes higher order thinking and problem solving in young children.
They are creating a professional development model which will be implemented through the modeling and coaching. The modeling and coaching will be conveyed through a series of virtual sessions supported by the iPads and Skype.
Congratulations to Ms. Mahua Chakraborty, University High School Chemistry, Physics, and Advanced Physical Science Instructor, upon publication of her article, "A New Approach to Bring Scientific Practice to Secondary Classrooms". The article, co-authored with Ningfeng Zhao, was published in the Spring 2013 issue of
Tennessee Educational Leadership
. The publication is available from the Tennessee Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, Franklin, Tennessee. Great job, Ms. Chakraborty!
