Middle School

6th grade:  Choose from one of the following titles.  It must be a book you have not already read. 

  1. Holes by Louis Sacchar
  2. Dragonwings by Laurence Yep
  3. A View from Saturday by E.L. Kingsburg
  4. A Long Way from Chicago by Richard Peck

7th grade: 

1.  Choose from one of the following titles.  It must be a book you have not already read. 

a.  The Call of the Wild by Jack London

b.  Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie

c.  The Cay by Theodore Taylor

d.  The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare

2.  One self-selected novel—Self-selected books must be on a middle school reading level or higher and my not include novels assigned or read at school.

8th grade: 

1.  Choose from one of the following titles.  It must be a book you have not already read. 

  1. Cast Two Shadows:  The American Revolution in the South by Ann Rinaldi
  2. The Light in the Forest by Conrad Richter
  3. The Secret of Sarah Revere by Ann Rinaldi
  4. Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
  1. One self-selected novel—Self-selected books must be on a middle school reading level or higher and my not include novels assigned or read at school.

 

High School

English 9:  Must have read The Giver by Lois Lowry

English 9Honors:  Must have read The Giver and Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry

English 10:  a memoir of their choosing

English 10 Honors: 

  1. Summer Reading:  Hamlet by William Shakespeare and The Three Musketeers (the Author’s Preface through Chapter 35) by Alexandre Dumas
  2. The following is a list of novels that will be read over the course of the school year.  Each honors student will need to have his/her own copy of each of these books:
    1. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
    2. The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo
    3. The Invisible Man by HG Wells
    4. Dracula by Bram Stoker
    5. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne

English 11 Honors:  Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Scarlet Letter
