ATHLETIC ACADEMIC
ELIGIBILTY
Establishing Initial
Academic Eligibility at
the beginning of the
school year
ELIGIBILITY
UNDER TSSAA
According to the
TSSAA 2006-2007
handbook, the rule
states, “all credits
must be earned by the
first day of the
beginning of the school
year. Academic
eligibility for a
student is based on the
requirements of the
school the student was
attending at the
conclusion of the
previous school year.
Students who are
ineligible first
semester may gain
eligibility second
semester by passing five
subjects…” page 12 TSSAA
Eligibility Guidelines.
UNIVERSITY
SCHOOL ELIGIBILITY
To establish
eligibility a
student must pass at
least 5 of his classes
from the previous school
year or the semester
before a sport begins.
No student can begin a
clinic, or tryouts
without a current
physical.
Maintaining
Eligibility
ATHLETIC
CONTRACTS (Academic
Plan)
Grades will be reviewed
by the administration
and athletic director at
interim reports and the
end of each quarter.
Students must be
enrolled and passing a
total of five (5)
assigned classes. When
a student is determined
ineligible an athletic
eligibility contract
must be completed to
continue participation
in a sport. The
Administration, coach
(optional), parents,
student and athletic
director (optional),
will complete the
contract.
When a student
is found ineligible due
to poor academic
performance, the student
cannot play (but may
practice) until the
meeting is held.
·
An initial academic
contract will be created
with specific strategies
for the student to
follow. Practice and
play can continue if the
planning team approves.
·
If a second contract is
created, practice and
play will be suspended
in order for the student
to spend more time
improving his/her
academic studies.
·
Two contracts in a row
is considered a second
contract for athletics
even if it is for a
different subject
