My motivation to study for a PH.D. in neuroscience came as I was raising my 3 children at home and dealing with the difficulties and pain of one of them being mentally challenged, later diagnosed as autistic. Living in Chapel Hill, NC, brought me to my two advisors in the Anatomy and Cell Biology Det., Drs. Jean Lauder and Kathy Sulik, who initiated me in brain development and teratology, respectively. An interest in receptors followed during the post doc time, and at ETSU, Dr. Michael Woodruff instructed me in behavioral studies.
