Wellmont - Bristol Regional Medical Center moved into a new facility in 1994. Wellmont Health System, created in 1996 by the merger of Bristol Regional and Holston Valley Medical Center, is one of two major providers of health care within the 15-county Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia service area. Wellmont - Bristol Regional Medical Center is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Health Care Organizations. With 348 beds available, it offers full acute care facilities, including a level two Emergency Department, medical and surgical intensive care units, cardiac and pulmonary intermediate care areas, modern New Life Birthing Center, level two nursery, medical - psychiatric unit, freestanding inpatient hospice house, and complete laboratory. All ancillary services are available. The Radiology Department offers full nuclear scanning capabilities, magnetic resonance imaging, PET scanning, and state of the art interventional services. There is a regional cancer therapy center, possessing a linear accelerator among other equipment. The medical staff of over 150, includes all specialties and most sub-specialties. Wellmont - Bristol Regional Medical Center is the only hospital in town, and its services are complemented by a wide range of community resources. Our program is the only residency based in the hospital, and enjoys excellent relationships with the hospital administration, medical staff and nursing staff.
