Constance T. Hixson, M.D.

Assistant Professor

Constance Hixson It has been my great pleasure since 1992 to be on the ETSU Faculty in the Department of Family Medicine. I love working with our Residents as they develop into responsive, knowledgeable, skilled, caring physicians. I encourage and support professional development and individual fulfillment in those around me.  I hold a part-time position as a Clinical Instructor at ETSU Family Physicians of Kingsport. In my childhood and adulthood, I have enjoyed many multicultural experiences, including working as a teacher for four years in West and East Africa prior to entering medical school.  While a lab instructor at Muhimbili Hospital, University of Dar es Salaam College of Medicine, Tanzania, I realized that I should seek medical training. I graduated from the University of Utah College of Medicine with Honors in Family Medicine, completed Family Medicine Residency at Duke University School of Medicine, worked in a farming community as a family physician for six years, and since 1988 have been a teacher in family medicine.  After several years in Lexington, Kentucky, my family and I moved to Kingsport, Tennessee. My husband, a cardiologist, and I have raised four children among the welcoming people and beautiful mountains of east Tennessee. I am Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, and a member of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and of the American Academy of Family Physicians. I am an Instructor in ETSU’s Communication Skills for Health Professionals multidisciplinary course. Recently, I have provided leadership as the Co-Director of the International Medical Graduate Institute at ETSU, a skills assessment program for international medical graduates. Please email me at .
