I thought that a general surgery residency at the University of Tennessee was part of my path, but I was mistaken. My year of surgery was rewarding, but I still felt like something was missing. I never felt any true connection to the patient or the family. I have become more passionate about primary care and I know my personality is better suited for a less imposing, slower paced environment. I want to be a family physician who patients would want not only as their doctor, but also as part of their family unit. I became a father during my intern year and experienced the positive impact a family physician can have on a family unit firsthand. I love spending time with my family, including my son, mother, siblings and my 11 nieces and nephews. I also enjoy traveling, fly fishing, skiing and reading. My goal is to learn as many aspects of medicine as possible and to share my passion for teaching, mentoring and providing sound healthcare to all.
