Goal: |
Students to obtain a broad understanding of what sports medicine is and what sports medicine physicians do on a daily basis. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Objectives: |
Be able to perform all major physical
examination techniques.
Be able to perform injections of major joints. Have an understanding of the different types and uses of casting and splinting techniques. Understand and be able to perform a pre-participation physical exam. Understand the different types of radiograph for certain body areas, and be able to relay findings on these films. |

Topics will include: physical examination of major body areas, joint injection, casting, splinting, preparticipation physical exams, concussions, sideline emergencies Settings will be: Outpatient clinic of sports medicine specialist High school training room Football field or gymnasium for high school sporting events Kingsport clinic and conference room |

Proposed Rotation Schedule: |
Mondays: am physical exam teaching, pm athletic
training room
Tuesday: am musculoskeletal clinic, pm radiology and joint injections Wednesdays & Thursdays: community sport medicine physicians all day Fridays: am casting and splinting/optional review session, pm final testing *During the week there will be some mandatory game coverage depending upon the season of the rotation |
