Residency Program

The goal of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at East Tennessee State University is to train outstanding general internists for either practice or to enter subspecialty training.  ETSU is recognized as a national leader in the training of primary care physicians. This institution was ranked third of all schools in the nation as a site for training in rural medicine by the US News and World Report.

In 2008, 96% of our candidates passed the ABIM Certifying Examination. We have developed one of the most comprehensive internal medicine board preparation courses in the United States .  The residency program is very well balanced in the areas of service, scholarship and time off to enjoy family or your own interests.

The residency is fully accredited for four years by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Only twenty-seven percent of programs in the country have received four or more years of accreditation.
