The Division of Gastroenterology at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University is committed to continue excellence in research. Dr. Gene LeSage has been a leader in Hepatology with work including the study of Bile Acid Modulation of Bile Duct Secretion and Growth. His most recent work has included the study of Intestinal Transport Mechanisms in mice with collaboration with other researchers throughout the world.

Other attendings and fellows are involved in clinical research focusing on case review and reports. Future studies are being formulated for outcome measures in the veteran population in comparison to private practice. Past research has included noninvasive testing of patients with atypical chest pain and comparative studies of modalities to control Esophageal Variceal Bleeding.
