The snout reflex is a primitive reflex normally present from birth until about the age of one. The suck, palmomental, glabellar and grasp are also primitive reflexes present in newborn babies.
In an adult. the presence of one or more primitive reflexes usually indicates the presence of diffuse cerebral disease such as found in dementias, metabolic encephalopathies, closed head trauma, and hydrocephalus.
