NSI Head with a nano-column
The LTQ XL allows electrospray ionization (ESI) and atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI); however, the unique feature of this device is nanospray ionization (NSI), which allows detection of peptides and chemicals in the femtomole range. We use NSI on an “every-day-basis” both in dynamic mode (nano-column injection, LC/MS analysis) and in static mode (direct injection from a nano-tip, MS analysis).

The LTQ XL is capable of analyzing complex protein samples ("full digests" of complex mixtures of proteins or peptides), as well as the identification of posttranslational protein modifications.
