I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and attended Washington
University, St. Louis, Missouri, graduating with a major in
German Language & Literature (1981). For medical school, I
attended the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB)
graduating in 1986. I completed my Residency in Family Practice
from UAB in 1989.
Employment:
In 1981, I married Susanne M. Shine, MD who is also a family physician. We have four children, Lara, Anna, Jonathan, & Fiona; however, recently, we are “empty-nesters.” My passions & hobbies include: soccer, music (guitar, singing), issues of social justice, & Physicians for a National Health Plan (PNHP). |
