In 2008, the ETSU-Sevier County Partnership Advisory Board approved a Three Point Plan for the Sevier County Student Recruitment into Health Professions.  Among a number of reinforcing strategies proposed was a health careers summer camp.  The camp had three objectives:

1. To conduct a summer camp in Sevier County with students in health careers that linked campers, Sevier County schools personnel and ETSU faculty, students and admissions/advisement officers.
   
   
2. To involve all five ETSU health sciences: College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Public Health, College of Pharmacy, and College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences, to assure camper familiarity with a broad range of health disciplines and careers.
   
   
3. To evaluate Sevier County students camper awareness of health professions and identify camper learning.
   

Key principles that were identified by the Team and carried through the agenda of the camp include:

1. The camp agenda should emphasize "hands-on" and experiential methods of learning.
2. Demonstrations should emphasize the importance of science as fundamental to all health professions.
3. All campers should be exposed to all health careers presented by the ETSU Health Sciences faculty.
