Why Quillen
I really liked the small class size and the
personal attention that was given to each student. I
also was amazed at how friendly everyone was and the fact
that people here had a life outside of school.
Being a Quillen Student
I enjoy being around other highly intelligent
students that work to help each other, not to out-perform
each other. I also like that my professors are
genuinely interested in my achievement.
Juggling School and Family
It is difficult, there's no question about it. My
wife is a nurse and works nights, so I try to do as much
studying as possible while she's gone. Setting
boundaries is really important (and I could definitely do
better).
Life Outside the Classroom
I try to get in some exercise whenever possible to
maintain sanity. I think it is important too to spend time
doing things that have nothing to do with medicine. When I
have free time, I try to really detach and avoid letting
school overtake every aspect of my life. Even grocery
shopping with my wife is a pleasant break.
Living In Northeast Tennessee
This area of the state is absolutely beautiful -
the mountains form a gorgeous backdrop. I'm a
small-town boy at heart, so living in a less populous area
is really nice. Johnson City is a great balance because you
don't have the problems of a big city (traffic, pollution,
etc.) but you still get the amenities (major stores and
restaurants, etc.).
