Why Study Radiography?

Professional. Technical. Career.

Radiographers operate complex imaging equipment in a number of different environments encompassing general diagnostics, surgical, interventional procedures and other imaging modalities such as Computerized Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Currently, there is a nation-wide shortage of radiographers making this area of study a good career choice.

Radiography is a very hands-on profession. The radiography program at ETSU, only one of 28 programs nationally that offers a baccalaureate degree, requires you to complete classroom and clinical experiences during the course of the entire program. Therefore, you are able to interact with technologists and patients from the very beginning of the program. When you graduate you can choose a career in diagnostic radiography or specialize. With on-the-job experience and some additional education, you can specialize in CT, MRI, quality assurance, cardiovascular interventional technology, mammography, etc. With one additional year of education (beyond the radiography program), you can specialize in sonography, nuclear medicine, or radiation oncology. The majority of radiographers are employed in hospitals. However, positions in clinics, private offices, industry, civil service, and public health facilities are also available.

ETSU’s radiography program gives you the opportunity to work with patients and professionals learning the skills to launch your career.
