The field of speech-language pathology is seeing an increase in children identified with communication problems, particularly those under three years of age. Additionally, the aging of our population is also driving a need for speech-language pathologists. The opportunities for our graduates include working in a variety of settings including hospitals, rehab centers, community clinics, schools, or even private practice. Some of our graduates also go on to teach and continue their research in a university setting. Current trends reveal shortages of speech-language pathologists across the country but the shortages are felt most in school systems and at the university doctoral level.
