Protocol for check-in and check-out as follows:
- Check-In
- Request that the instructor check the medical and dental history and vital signs after the student has thoroughly reviewed and recorded the findings. The student will verbally present all significant findings to the instructor. The student will determine prior to the appointment if any precautionary measures or medical consultations are required on reappoints and recalls. They will inform the instructor prior to any treatment. No treatment shall be rendered until the instructor has checked the patient's medical history.
- Request that the instructor check-in and classify the patient after the student has thoroughly and accurately recorded the extra and intra-oral examination, gingival evaluation, occlusion, patient classification, and periodontal charting. (Dental and Perio charting to be completed following completion of prophy on Class B, C, and perio patients.)
- The student will verbally present all significant findings of the examination to the instructor and will have completed and presented treatment plan.
- PLEASE NOTE: Evaluation of all performance criteria are based on the following:
- Acceptable = Performed satisfactorily on item or procedure, preparation and follow through met established criteria.
- 1/2 = Considered item with satisfactory thought process, but carry through weak.
- Unacceptable = Minimal thought and performance given to procedure or item, considerable improvement required.
- Performance Evaluations must be completed at 100% competency. If the score is less than 100%, the student must repeat the competency.
- Check-Out
- Request that the instructor check-out the areas scaled, prior to polishing according to the following criteria:
- Class A - Full mouth scaling check.
- Class B - Check-out by arch.
- Class C - Check-out by quadrant.
- Class Perio - Check-out by quadrant.
- The student will record all errors in red on the prophylaxis evaluation.
- Patients must be dismissed by no later that 15 minutes prior to the end of the clinic session. It is the responsibility of clinical faculty to confirm that all patients are dismissed on time.
