Responsibility of Clinic Receptionists

The clinic receptionist will perform the following procedures according to specified criteria:

  1. Report to reception area 15 minutes prior to clinic.
  2. Act as receptionist to greet all patients.
  3. Answer telephone and make appointments in professional manner. Answer by saying, "Department of Dental Hygiene, may I help you."
  4. Refer new patients and recall patients to clinic secretary for collection fees. This should be collected before patient is seen.
  5. Give all new patients a medical history to fill out (in ink).
  6. Call student hygienist on intercom when patient is ready.
  7. Prepare files for next clinic session.
    • Pull appropriate files.
    • Prepare files for new patients: Place oral exams, dental chart, treatment record and medical history in folder. For a recall patient if the file does not have fasteners please attach to folder.
  8. File all patient records utilized during the assigned clinic period.
  9. Confirm appointments for the next clinic session.
  10. Maintain the reception area in a clean and orderly fashion.
  11. Follow instructions and completes tasks assigned by the clinic receptionist.
  12. Maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
