General Information

History

Public and allied health courses have been offered since the mid-1940s.The College of Public and Allied Health (CPAH) was established as the School of Health in 1959 and became operational in June 1960. From this beginning, CPAH has grown and now houses six departments (see links to each at left) offering academic programs at the associate, baccalaureate, graduate certificate, and master's degree levels.

Facilities

John P. Lamb Hall, located on the ETSU main campus, houses programs in Communicative Disorders, Dental Hygiene, Environmental Health, Health Sciences, and Public Health, The Environmental Health Sciences Laboratory is located in Hutcheson Hall, which is adjacent to Lamb Hall. The Department of Physical Therapy is housed on the VA campus in Building 2. Programs in Radiography and Cardiopulmonary Science are located at the Nave Center in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Clinical/field experiences, and co-op programs are arranged in a variety of settings within the service area of ETSU.

Rural and Community Health Program

An Interdisciplinary Rural and Community Health program has been developed and implemented through the Kellogg Community Partnership. Courses are taught in the communities of Mountain City and Rogersville, Tennessee. Special Services

Speech and Hearing Clinic: The Department of Communicative Disorders provides clinical services to individuals having speech, language, or hearing problems. Evaluation and treatment procedures are performed by qualified students under the supervision of certified faculty for a nominal fee. Appointments may be scheduled by contacting the Department of Communicative Disorders at (423) 439-4355.

Dental Hygiene Clinic: The Dental Hygiene Program of the Department of Allied Health Sciences offers clinical services including dental inspection, dental prophylaxis (scaling and polishing the teeth), preventive treatments (application of fluorides), preventive periodontal treatment (treatment of minor gum disorders), and diagnostic dental X-rays. All treatment is provided by qualified dental hygiene students under the supervision of a licensed dentist for a nominal fee. All persons are eligible for the services. Appointments may be scheduled by contacting the Department of Dental Hygiene at (423) 439-4497.
