JOHNSON CITY An assistant professor of Epidemiology in the East Tennessee State University College of Public Health has received one of only two awards of excellence presented annually by a health research organization in Quebec, Canada.

Dr. Arsham Alamian, a faculty member in the ETSU Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, received the award from the Quebec Population Health Research Network. The organization honors the two best dissertations completed during the prior year on research topics in population health. Each winner receives $2,000 and a certificate of recognition.

Alamians dissertation, Individual and social determinants of multiple chronic disease behavioral risk factors in Canadian children and adolescents, was completed in 2010 in Canada. It included three manuscripts, two of which were published in the American Journal of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine.
