The purpose of the Breakfast with the Expert series is to facilitate career planning and development for our students, recognizing the diverse career options, the changing nature of the workforce, and a growing recognition of the importance of the cross-cutting competencies in public health, such as leadership, professionalism and ethics.
The series brings local experts to the College to discuss timely topics and meet with students in an informal setting. The series was designed with input from students and alumni to specifically address an area of need that they identified.
The program was kicked off in February 2011 with Tim Attebery, President, Wellmont CVA Heart Institute, discussing What Do Employers mean by Professionalism?
The March seminar was presented by Brenda Neas, Director, Blue Ridge Medical Management, and Lance Beus, Practice Administrator, and focused on Medical Group Practice Management An Insiders look at an Excellent Career Option.
This was followed in April by a presentation about Public Health: Are you Ready? by Gary Mayes, Regional Director, Sullivan County Health Department.
The series was led by Mr. Tim Baylor, clinical instructor of health services administration and Assistant Dean for Public Health Practice, with support of the Department faculty and staff, and will continue in fall 2011.
