The purpose of this proposed US-Brazil university consortium is to foster student exchange and curriculum development, as well as language and cultural skills, among speech-language pathology and audiology students in the US and Brazil. This consortium program will target cross-linguistic communication disabilities in children, with a particular focus on children with speech disorders, hearing loss, cleft lip and/or palate, and autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Over two years, 11 students will be selected to participate in the research exchange during one semester of study (6 week summer session for US students and 3-4 month semester for Brazilian students). The US-Brazil Higher Education Consortia Program is sponsored by the Fund for the Improvement of Post Secondary Education (FIPSE) of the U.S.Department of Education and the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) of the Brazil Ministry of Education. This program fosters university partnerships through the exchange of students and faculty.
