Eligible hygienists must have earned an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited US or Canadian institution.

Interested dental hygienists should apply to the program and to the university. Application to the program includes completion of the online program application and submitting a copy of your current license along with a statement or resume relevant to your dental hygiene work experience. The license and resume may be submitted electronically to Dr. Debbie Dotson at or faxed to (423) 439-4030. Classes are admitted each fall (August) and spring (January).     

All dental hygiene courses for this program are online.  However, all students participating in the BSDH Degree Completion program are required to visit campus one time for program orientation prior to starting the program. Orientations are typically held in mid August and early January.

General Education Core requirements may transfer from other universities or be taken online through ETSU or the Tennessee Regents Online Degree Program (RODP) to meet the general education core requirements for the BSDH degree.



Admission Requirements

Admission to the BSDH degree completion program requires the following information be submitted for consideration and selection:

  • Evidence of admission to ETSU

  • Transcripts that include proof of graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program

  • A current US or Canadian dental hygiene license

  • A brief resume outlining work history in dental hygiene

  • Official college transcripts from all institutions attended.  All official transcripts should be sent to the Office of Admissions, ETSU, P.O. Box 70731, Johnson City, TN 37614.

PLEASE NOTE:  ETSU requires a total of 50 hours semester credit be completed at a senior level (4 year) institution to earn a baccalaureate degree. Thirty-four of these hours are acquired through the BSDH online program leaving 16 to be taken, either as general education core requirements or as electives.



BSDH Degree Completion Requirements

DHYG 3100 - (5 credit hours)

This course will provide licensed dental hygienists the opportunity to evaluate current dental hygiene therapies and interpret them for application in dental hygiene practice.

Following successful completion of DHYG 3100 the student will receive transfer credit for dental hygiene courses required for associate degree (up to 46 credit hours, lower division).

Following successful completion of DHYG 3100 the student will receive course credit for DHYG 3031, 4021, 4121, 3120, and 4000 (16 hours - upper division)

 

Complete required DHYG hours (13 hours - upper division)

In addition, please send the following information to the Department of Allied Health Sciences at the address below. 

2. Application to BSDH Online Program

A copy of your letter of acceptance or readmission to ETSU.
