  • Attendance is required during all laboratory and clinic sessions.
    • Absences will be excused only in cases of illness or emergencies. If the student is ill and cannot attend class or clinic, the Department of Dental Hygiene must be notified by 8:00 A.M. by calling 439-4497. The student is responsible for canceling or reassigning his/her patient at any time he/she cannot attend clinic. Students assigned to an off-campus clinical rotation site must contact appropriate personnel at the rotation 15 minutes prior to the first appointment.
    • Personal business is not to be attended to during clinic hours. This includes personal phone calls or visitors. Cell phones are not permitted in the clinical treatment area.
    • UNEXCUSED absences will result in a five point reduction of the final clinical grade.
  • Each clinic period must be scheduled to the student's capacity. If a scheduled appointment does not show, standby patient's must be seen by clinical student's with free appointment time.
  • Students may not schedule patients outside regular clinic hours. Board patients may be examined in the clinic with faculty approval and supervision.
  • Broken Appointments
    • The student should wait 15 minutes for the late arrival of a scheduled patient. After that time the student should make every effort to obtain another patient for the clinic period.
    • Attendance is required for the entire clinic session. If it is impossible to schedule a patient to fill a broken appointment, the student will use the clinic period to work on clinic requirements or will be assigned duties to benefit teamwork. The student's attendance is expected up to 15 minutes before the end of the clinic period. Leaving the clinic floor more than 15 minutes before the end of the period, will result in a professionalism error.
    • Write the date and details of the broken appointment in the treatment record of the patient's fold
