Dr.
Wayne Gillespie received his
Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from The
College of William and Mary in
1993 and his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology from
East
Tennessee State University in 1998. Dr. Gillespie holds a doctorate in Sociology from the
University of Kentucky (2001). For his dissertation,
he surveyed over 1,000 male inmates in 30 prisons across three states to
develop a contextual (multilevel) model of inmate adaptation. Dr.
Gillespie's dissertation was published by
LFB Scholarly Publishing.
Included among
Dr. Gillespie's research interests are the following:
corrections, domestic violence, criminological theory, drug and alcohol
abuse, race and crime, sexuality and the law (LGBT issues), and health
services. His recent publications have
appeared in The Journal of Homosexuality, The Journal of Gay
and Lesbian Social Services, The American Journal of Criminal
Justice, The Journal of Drug Issues,
International Criminal Justice Review, and The Prison Journal.
Dr. Gillespie enjoys teaching graduate seminars including
CJCR5000: Criminological Theory, CJCR5010: The American System of Justice, CJCR5070:
Juvenile
Delinquency, CJCR5850: Research Design, and CJCR5040: Law & Society as well as undergraduate
courses such as CJCR3010: Research Methods, CJCR3310: Criminology, and
CJCR3500: Juvenile Justice. He also teaches the innovative new
course, CJCR4957/5957: Sexuality and the Law, which will be
offered again in Fall 2009.
