Travis Graves

Travis Graves, Assistant Professor

gravest@etsu.edu

Travis Graves has been a faculty member in the Department of Art and Design at ETSU since 2005.  He attended Iowa State University as an undergraduate where I received his BFA in drawing, painting, and printmaking.   He received my Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where his primary focused of study was sculpture.   Before joining the faculty at ETSU, he had lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and worked at The Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD).  While at MIAD I taught as an adjunct instructor and served as the Sculpture Departments Lab Technician for two years.

Travis’s work seeks to examine attitudes and expectations as it defines our relationship between nature / culture, society’s dependence on nature, and its influence over it.  His sculptural work has included wood, found object, cast bronze, and most recently digital video and projection.  Travis was awarded the International Sculpture Center’s “Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award” as a graduate student in 2003.  He has also received numerous grants, the most recent being a faculty Research and Development Grant from ETSU.  He continues to exhibit both regionally and nationally.
