COMPASS Testing and Study Guide

COMPASS is the computerized instrument we use to determine placement into developmental classes when a student is not submitting ACT or SAT scores. These scores must be less than three years old to be considered. The online edition of the study guide for COMPASS is in PDF format (224 K) and requires the free Adobe Acrobat Reader plugin. If you don't have this plugin, click here for Adobe Acrobat Reader. It will open in a new window. Then come back to this page after you finish the download.

Use your browser's Back button to return to this page. Note: As of summer, 2002, we no longer teach courses numbered 0700.

Additional information is available on the ACT web site. Some of the sample questions are the same, but you also get to see some screen shots of the computerized testing program.

Students who wish to challenge their placement in DSP courses may do so by taking the COMPASS test prior to the beginning of the term.  A $20.00 fee is charged for the challenge test.  Contact the University Testing Center at 423-439-7842 to schedule the test.
