Campus Security Report

East Tennessee State University (ETSU), in its continuing effort to maintain a safe academic and work environment for students, faculty and staff, is presenting the following information concerning campus safety and security. This information is presented to the university community with the knowledge that individual awareness and adherence to university security policies and procedures is the best method to maintain a safe campus environment.
ETSU has initiated a number of new services and programs designed to provide the university community with additional ways for students, faculty and staff to stay safe while on campus. The following is a brief summary of these services:
New Security Services and Programs
- The university has an Emergency Preparedness Plan that outlines the procedures for response in case of a campus-wide emergency episode.
- Students, faculty and staff may sign up on-line to receive text message alerts regarding emergency episodes including weather and safety issues. Information is also available at www.etsu.edu and by clicking on the Gold Alert icon. A mass email will be sent to students, faculty and staff in the event of an emergency episode. An alert page on the ETSU Home Page provides updated information regarding safety and security issues.
- Sirens have been installed to alert the campus to impending bad weather or a threat to campus safety.
- There are Code Blue emergency/courtesy phones available throughout the campus including locations near residence halls and parking lots.
- A system of e-watch cameras are being installed in selected buildings including residence halls.
- ETSU is constantly improving lighting that creates bright pathways for sidewalks most likely to be used at night.
- A training module describing how to manage student conduct will be provided for all faculty and staff. It addresses behaviors of concern, classroom management, and student conduct rules.
- A Student Behavior Management Team consisting of personnel from Student Affairs, Public Safety, the Counseling Center, Disability Services and Housing and Residence Life meets regularly to discuss intervention strategies for students who exhibit problematic behavior.
In compliance with the federal Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act and the Tennessee College and University Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act of 2002, members of the campus community may obtain the most recent information received from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) concerning sex offenders employed, enrolled or volunteering at this institution at the ETSU Department of Public Safety. Information is also available on the TBI's Web site listing of sex offenders located on the Internet at:

The Department of Public Safety has been notified by TBI that the following individuals: Thomas Intardonato, Theodore J. Hicks, Neal Anthony Robinette, Betty S. McClain - Hensley associated with ETSU is listed on the TBI sex offender registry.
