M. Karen Smith Before joining the Department of Family Medicine in February 2006, Karen Smith worked in foundation relations for Hollins University, a private liberal arts university in Roanoke, VA. Prior to that, Ms. Smith served as Program Director for CASA of Northeast Tennessee and administered other social service programs. Her professional background includes ten years of grant writing experience and seven years of non-profit administration. Karen Smith completed the B.S. in Sociology and Anthropology and the M.A. in Applied Sociology at East Tennessee State University.
