OVERVIEW

This course’s main objective is to provide the employee with an understanding of algebra.  The lessons and exercises in this course will provide the participant with the practice and experiences necessary to develop algebra knowledge, skills, and abilities.  Course includes a variety of exercises and is based on ETSU’s Developmental Studies algebra curriculum.

Upon completion of this course, the participant will demonstrate competencies in algebra in the following subject areas:

Fractions, Decimals, Percents

bullet

Operations with signed numbers

bullet

Order of operations

bullet

Working with exponents

bullet

Solving linear equations & inequalities

bullet

Translating and solving written problems

EVALUATION

Evaluation process includes an informal in-take on the current level of participant’s knowledge and skills as related to arithmetic and algebra.   Competencies in each subject area will be measured with an exam.  Upon completion of each section’s lessons and exercises, the particpant will score 80% or higher on the evaluative exam.

Instructor and participant evaluation used to determine rate of progression.  Participant will gain an understanding of many new words and terms throughout course.

COMPLETION

Participant completes course when all individual exercises have been completed, and when the participant has obtained a score of 80% or higher on the final assessment. The participant must score 80% or higher on each evaluative exam to proceed to next subject.
